What is a Yantra?

Yantras are Instruments based on the principles of sacred geometry used for meditation. Each Yantra design contains a central point or “dot” from which geometric shapes and designs radiate.  Traditionally, such symbols are used to balance the mind or focus it on spiritual concepts, and meditating on a yantra is held to have spiritual benefits. The Sanskrit word yantra is derived from the word ‘yam, ' meaning to sustain or maintain. A yantra is a pure geometric configuration composed of basic primal shapes. These shapes are psychological symbols corresponding to the inner states of human consciousness. This innate simplicity of composition is identified with spiritual presence.

Why is Yantra important?

  • Yantras are great cosmic conductors of energy, an antenna of nature, a powerful tool for harmony, prosperity, success, good health, yoga, and meditation.

  • Yantras are geometrical figures placed on a metal sheet or paper that work on energies about the particular God in the form of Mantras. In simple terms, a yantra is a symbolic representation of a Mantra.

  • Yantras (significant talismans) are effective remedial measures in achieving your desires by removing the malefic effects of your karmic planets. These karmic planets cause blockages and obstacles in your life.

  • The yantras are energized through prayers and mantras prescribed by Sages thousands of years ago.

  • It is said that if you are chanting the mantras of a deity (Lord Kuber), keeping his yantra while chanting can speed up the beneficial effects of the mantras.

  • Yantras are related to planets as each of these planets has either good or bad effects, and yantras are believed to remove their harmful effects and increase their positive effects

  • Yantras are designed in a way to relate with the five elements of nature - earth, water, fire, air, and sky - and when one performs prayers regularly, it is said that they get a certain amount of power to control nature for their advantage

  • It’s a physical means to store the cosmic energy of a mantra.

  • A Yantra always contains a Mantra associated with it. Just as the mind is a part of, yet different from, the body, so is the Mantra from the Yantra.

  • Yantras intensify our prayers and turn our thoughts solid and influential.

Yantras make our prayers touch the deities sooner.

The Yantra is as essential to a god as oil is to the oil lamp or as a body is to a living human being.
